If you’re not in love with your company’s branding, you are not proud to be handing out your business cards or directing people to your website, something is wrong. In this article we’ll discuss exactly why you should be proud of your branding, if you are not then and why you should seek the help of a professional to work on it for you.
Where many companies we end up working with have previously fallen short is they don’t realise the importance of a strong logo and great branding. I have heard stories of company directors asking their son to come up with a logo or using an offshore freelancer to do their logo for $50… so I thought I’d add my thoughts to our blog of why you, as a client, need to get a professional graphic designer to first speak to you, understand your service/product and then deliver outstanding branding.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure offshore branding solutions work for some companies, but as a company owner you really need to think of this as the foundation to your business, it’s the first thing people see when they approach you, if it appeals to an audience based, say in India, or it looks like a 10th grader did it it’s going to do nothing for your professionalism and going to say nothing to your target audience.
I’ve put a list of 5 ‘must haves’ which your logo should gravitate towards:
1. Simplicity
2. Consistency
3. Memorability
4. Remarkability
5. It should also be market tested
We always like to say to my customers, ‘You wouldn’t go to see a film without seeing the trailer first’ well would you? How would you know what you were going to get, it could be a horror movie that would scare the pants off you and then what…. New pants? So how does this relate to you and your logo you must be thinking? What a film trailer does is primes you for what you are going to see, think of a logo the same way. Next time you see a logo, any logo, I bet there is one at the top/bottom of the screen you’re looking at, stop and think about how it makes you feel, does it tell you that the company is offering a cheap product, is it saying that this product is of top quality. What a logo is saying to you is a big deal and in the same way a film trailer is priming you for what you are going to see, the logo is doing exactly the same, it’s priming you for what service/product you are about to receive.
Care about your company, care about how it reflects on your target audience, make the investment and work with a professional branding designer to get this right for you, it will be worth it.
